In the early 1900’s Ebenezer referred to itself as the “The Church of Christian Fellowship.” In 2012 at a Church Conference, Ebenezer unanimously voted to re-instate it as the church’s motto. Committed to that precept, Ebenezer prides itself in:
- Fulfilling the ministry and commission of The Church, to serve the Lord and seek the lost,
- Walking worthy of being called Christians, through our service and deeds,
- Engaging in the genuine heartfelt work of Fellowship, through worship , works and witness.
Our Motto
From its origin in 1826 until 1829 members held their services in various homes. In 1829, thirty or more families of "free persons of color" procured a site on Central Avenue and erected a building for public worship. Signers of the deed were Samuel Edgar, Anthony Jamison and, Jacob Moore, who signed their names by placing an “X” on the signature lines because they were unable to print their names. Read More>>
Ebenezer is committed to being a holistic ministry, ministering to the Spiritual, Intellectual, Emotional and Physical needs of its believers and the Greater Rahway community. The ministry of Ebenezer is supported by Seven Commissions and over 30 ministries, which support the four pillars of the New Testament Church found in Acts 2: 42-47 (Teaching, Fellowship, Worship and Evangelism/Outreach.
